C O M New Startup Village Hub Located in the heart of Startup Village programming in the Hilton Austin Downtown (500 East 4th St.) is the new Startup Village Hub, a multi-faceted space where registrants can network, play games, or even get some work done. The Hub will also host the Startup Spotlight on March 13 and March 16 from 4-6pm with demos from newly launched startups and complimentary refreshments. Carpark's Sweet 16 Starting humbly in an apartment in Manhattan's East Village, 2015 marks Carpark's sweet 16th birthday. To celebrate, the eclectic label is throwing anniversary par- ties in New York, Washington, D.C. as well as in Austin at SXSW, where they will return to host another must-see showcase. Since the event coincides with NCAA's "March Madness," they will be giving their party a special basketball twist. Recent signings include the likes of Skylar Spence (formerly known as Saint Pepsi), Speedy Ortiz and GRMLN. Introducing the SX Health & MedTech Expo Promoting creativity, innovation and collaboration, the SX Health & MedTech Expo will fea- ture over 60 exhibiting companies from around the world. See how they are all pushing the limits of healthcare technology, along with programming on the "Pulse Stage" presented by Heathline. The Expo takes place March 16-17 at the JW Marriott. Decoded Fashion Mentorship Hub Located at the JW Marriott, Decoded Fashion presents a place where executives from the fashion, retail and beauty worlds will share industry knowledge and coach startup founders on how to grow. For more information, see New SXSWedu Closing Program SXSWedu 2015 attendees will have the opportunity to explore education through the lens of music, film, and interactive technologies at the new Closing Program on the afternoon of Thursday, March 12. This special single-stage program will present Bob Santelli (The Grammy Museum), Mimi Ito (The University of California-Irvine), Goldie Hawn (The Hawn Foundation) and Sal Khan (Khan Academy) in an engaging series of presentations and discussions on the power of education. SouthBites SouthBites is excited to add Los Angeles Times food critic Jonathan Gold to our program, which runs from March 14-16, at the Driskill Hotel (604 Brazos St.). The first food critic to win the Pulitzer Prize in 2007, Gold will speak on the democratization of food criticism and whether the internet has made this craft more or less rel- evant: African & Caribbean Showcases Confirmed for Palm Door on Sixth On Friday, March 20, Sounds of Africa and Sounds of the Caribbean will take over Palm Door on Sixth (508 E. 6th Street) for a crazy double-stage show! With Afrobeat rapidly crossing over to U.S. audi- ences, a lot of attention is being paid to Africa's vast and diverse cultures. As part of that, SXSW will be hosting the continent's biggest artists at the first Sounds of Africa showcase, a cultural celebra- tion of African music presented by Rickie Davies PR and HWR Group. The lineup includes D'banj, Wizkid, Ice Prince, Samini, Sarkodie, Serge Beynaud, Victoria Kimani and Esi. Meanwhile, SXSW music fans will also enjoy a one night explosion of the unique, diverse sounds from the Caribbean. From soca to dancehall, Sounds of the Caribbean will celebrate music, culture and lifestyle enabling the audience to experience fun and energetic performances from such A-list art- ists as Sean Paul, Gyptian, Machel Montano, Laza and Nyla (Brick & Lace).
