49 PLANNING OPS Planning Ops Crew Chiefs: Rod, Louisa, Jose, Justine, Arthur Planning Ops Days of Operation: March 6, 10-19, 2016 Planning Ops Check In: Volunteers who work on this crew will  check in at Production Village, located in  Exhibit Hall 5. Exhibit Hall 5 is located on  the northeast side of the Austin Convention  Center, near the corner of 4th and Red River. Planning Ops Volunteer Responsibilities & Duties: As keepers of the Austin Convention Center,  it's up to the Planning Ops Volunteer Crew  to support the SXSW Planning Staff and  mitigate chaos! They distribute publications  throughout the building, eliminate  unsanctioned or unsightly promotional  material, manage crowds, and occasionally  ask the problematic man in a gorilla suit to  take their ape business elsewhere.  Planning Ops volunteers can expect to be  responsible for wrapping and maintaining  the appearance of the concrete columns  that are in and around the ACC, recycling  materials, monitoring lines and crowds,  restocking magazines, patrolling the  distribution and posting of posters and  flyers, and reporting odd or problematic  behavior in the ACC to the Planning Ops  Crew Chiefs.  Planning Ops Shift Leaders are typically  experienced volunteers who are familiar  with the crew's functions. A high-level of  self-motivation is necessary, as well as an  ability to rally the troops and keep everyone  on task. Shift leaders oversee groups out  on the floor and help explain tasks to new  volunteers.  What Else Should Volunteers Know About the Planning Ops Crew: Two important things to remember are that  the term ACC means the Austin Convention  Center. The most unusual term the crew has  is a gondola. Gondolas are large bins that  the crew utilizes to roll around and collect  the recycling while unwrapping the poles  during the last shift. (As exhilarating as  unwrapping presents, but on a larger scale!)  The Planning Ops crew chiefs are happy to  have you on their team! Planning Ops Crew Attire and Reminders: Planning Ops Volunteers should wear their  volunteer t-shirt and tasteful bottoms. It is  important to wear something comfortable  and sensible footwear since the Austin  Convention Center is very large and you  will be walking around a great deal. The  temperature in the Austin Convention  Center can fluctuate from cold to hot, so  we recommend bringing layers (ex. hoodie,  sweater, jacket) if you tend to get cold.  If you will be working before you receive  your credential (for example, you may be  waiting for a music badge, but working  during Interactive) you will need to pick up a  working volunteer day pass from your crew  chief. How to Contact the Planning Ops Crew: If you're going to be late to a shift, then give  the Planning Ops Crew Chief on duty a call.  The number will be provided closer to the  event. If you already know in advance that  you will need to miss a shift, then send an  email for schedule changes, but please plan  in advance to avoid this. The Planning Ops  email is sxplanningops@gmail.com. If it's  less than 2 hours prior to the start of your  shift, first email your crew, then call the  Flake Task Force at (512) 404-4623 if you're  going to be late or miss the shift.
