50 PRESS & PUBLICITY Press & Publicity Crew Chiefs: Christina, Janessa, Josh, Jeremy, Amanda, & Renée Press & Publicity Days of Operation: March 10 - 19, 2016 Press and Publicity Check In: Volunteers who work on this crew will check in at the Press Desk located in Exhibit Hall 5. Exhibit Hall 5 is located on the northeast side of the Austin Convention Center, near the corner of 4th and Red River. If you are working outside of the Press Desk, your crew chiefs will communicate your check-in location. Press & Publicity Volunteer Responsibilities & Duties: The Press & Publicity Crew is responsible for answering questions, tagging cameras, issuing day passes, being polite, and providing the appropriate and correct information to Press & Publicity attendees. Shift leaders for Press & Publicity are utilized in the Press Suite (since the crew is not stationed there, but is in charge of managing it), and shift leaders are trained to be able to answer almost everything a crew chief can answer. Shift leaders also work at the Press Desk to be the go-to person when crew chiefs are at lunch, or when crew chiefs are solving a problem and another volunteer needs our help. Press & Publicity attendees can require a lot of attention, so the assistance of Shift Leaders is valued. What Else Should Volunteers Know About the Press & Publicity Crew: The best skills to have for the Press & Publicity Crew is the ability to be kind & professional, but firm. Press & Publicity Attire and Reminders: Press & Publicity Volunteers should wear their volunteer t-shirt and tasteful bottoms. The temperature in the Austin Convention Center can fluctuate from cold to hot, so we recommend bringing layers (ex. hoodie, sweater, jacket) if you tend to get cold and sensible footwear to keep your feet comfortable throughout your shift. If you will be working before you receive your credential (for example, you may be waiting for a music badge, but working during Interactive) you will need to pick up a working volunteer day pass from Volunteer Central if working the Press desk. You will need to pick it up from your crew chief if working in a different location. How to Contact the Press & Publicity Crew: If you need to contact your Press & Publicity Crew Chiefs, you can email them at sxpressandpub@gmail.com. During the event, you may also call/text them on their show phone. Please make sure to call or text, then email your crew chiefs if you are going to miss your shift, or arrive late. If it's less than 2 hours prior to the start of your shift first, email and then call the Flake Task Force at (512) 404-4623 if you're going to be late or miss the shift.
