24 ARTIST PARKING OPS Artist Parking Ops Crew Chiefs: Jamie, Ale, Pam, Anthony (A-Train), Kristen Artist Parking Ops Days of Operation: March 11 – 20, 2016 Artist Parking Ops Check In: Artist Parking Ops has a "homebase" street location between 5th and 6th Streets where the crew checks in. (Exact location coming soon!) Artist Parking Ops Crew Duties/Areas of Responsibility: The Artist Parking Ops Crew monitors artist parking and the streets of Austin during the SXSW Interactive, Film, and Music Festivals. Volunteers assist with street closures during the interactive festival. During music, volunteers are in charge of maintaining SXSW designated loading and unloading zones, handing out parking maps and passes to official SXSW artists, and helping maintain flow for oversized vehicles throughout the city. Artist Parking Ops Attire and Reminders: Artist Parking Ops Volunteers should wear the SXSW Volunteer t-shirt and tasteful bottoms. Volunteers will be working outside so be prepared for changes in the weather, from hot to cold, wet to dry and everything else in between. Remember, Austin weather in March can sometimes be unpredictable and dressing in layers is a good idea. If you will be working before you receive your credential (for example, you may be waiting for a music badge, but working during Interactive) you will need to pick up a working volunteer day pass from your crew chief . What Else Should Volunteers Know About the Artist Parking Ops Crew: We move around a lot! Don't bring anything with you that you're unwilling to carry with you all night. Wear comfortable, closed- toed shoes. Leave the flip-flops and high heels at home. It's a rain or shine event, so being prepared for the weather is key. Pay attention to the weather reports and dress accordingly. We work hard, but have a lot of fun! You will meet a lot of people and interact with a variety of artists and individuals throughout the festival. It is a great way to learn the city and everything SXSW has to offer because you are on the streets with the attendees. How to Contact the Artist Parking Ops Crew: Volunteers who work on the Artist Parking Ops Crew are asked to first email the crew chiefs if you are going to be late, miss a shift or need other assistance, time permitting. The Artist Parking Ops Crew email is sxartistparkingops@gmail.com. If it's less than 2 hours prior to the start of your shift, email your crew, then call the Flake Task Force at (512) 404-4623 if you're going to be late, or miss the shift.
