SXSW

13 Film & Interactive: March 11–15, Music: March 15–20 (Film screening continues through March 19) SXSW started in 1987 with the music portion of the event (SXSW Music). In 1994 SXSW  added conferences and festivals for the film industry (SXSW Film) as well as for the  blossoming interactive media (SXSW Interactive Festival). Expanding SXSW's platform  for creativity to include educators, SXSWedu began in 2011. SXSW is internationally known for its annual multi-media event that takes place every  March in Austin, Texas. This year, SXSW is celebrating its 30th year! LOCATIONS It's a common mistake for visitors & attendees to think that SXSW takes place in one  central location. In actuality, SXSW takes over much of the downtown area. THE AUSTIN CON VENTION CENTER (ACC) ACC hosts most of the conference portions of SXSW. Inside the ACC, you will find  events & areas such as panels, the trade show, stage performances, mentor sessions,  cafes, lounges, exhibitions, Registration, Information, Volunteer Central & the SXSW  Production Village to name a few. There are several additional venues that are used for SXSW programming: The Austin Hilton Hotel hosts a number of events, including Interactive Panels,  Interactive Innovation Awards, Austin Music Awards, Gaming Awards, VR/AR  programming, and Accelerator. Many volunteer crews also operate from the Hilton.   The JW Marriott houses several SXSWedu and Interactive panels, the Med tech Expo,  and Universal Music showcase. The Four Seasons Hotel is being used for SXSports  lounges and panels. The Hyatt will hold Interactive programming. The Driskill will hold  SouthBites events and panels. The Westin is home to SXStyle and Interactive Panels. SX  Create will take place at Palmer Events Center. The SXSW Film Festival will be holding screenings at Alamo South Lamar, Alamo  Slaughter, Alamo Ritz, The Paramount, The Stateside, The Rollins at Long Center, Topfer  Theater at Zach Scott, Marchesa, and Vimeo Theater at the ACC. During the SXSW Music Festival, over 100 stages in downtown Austin and the  surrounding area will showcase acts from around the world.  Parties take place at various venues throughout the downtown area, or in one of our  tented venues in Brush Square Park, located across the street from the ACC and Hilton.  Only parties listed in the SXSW Directories or Pocket Guides are official.
