A Look Back Dr. Sylvia Earle is an iconic figure in the world of oceanography. Founder of Mission Blue, the Sylvia Earle Alliance and Deep Ocean Exploration and Research Inc., and former chief scientist at NOAA, she has logged more than 7,000 hours underwater earning her the titles "Her Deepness" from The New York Times and "Living Legend" from the Library of Congress.
