Photo by Scott LePage Code & Programming In the Code & Programming track session "Regulating AI: How to Control the Unexplainable," Andrew Burt will explain how artificial intelligence and law are colliding, and what this means for data-driven companies, the tech industry, governments and citizens around the world. Social Impact Track includes New Series of Sessions The Social Impact track will include "Sex, Beauty and Women with Disabilities" with Brittany Déjean, founder of AbleThrive and past SXSW Community Service Award honoree. Leilani Münter, who combines two seemingly incongruent pursuits: race car driving and environmental activism, is on the "Agents of Mass Construction" session. Manal al-Sharif, who challenged Saudi Arabia's social taboo on women drivers in 2011, leading to the lifting of the ban in June 2018, will speak on "Everyday Ways to Fight Oppression." "There Is No Other Hand: Inclusive Design & Kids" will feature 11 year-old Jordan Reeves. Part of the Social Impact track, the Faith-based Series of Sessions will highlight the intersection of faith in culture, technology, and entertainment. Sessions such as "How Muslim-Jewish Dialogue Changes the World" will explore inclusivity, diversity, and innova- tion within the realm of faith and religion with an emphasis on interfaith collaboration. Also part of the Social Impact track, the LGBTQIA+ Series of Sessions will feature Lou Weaver, first Transgender Programs Coordinator for Equality Texas and first transmas- culine Houston Pride Male Grand Marshall, on the "TransVisible in Texas: Develop A Media Campaign" session, which will discuss the importance of transgender representation. Experiential Storytelling The Experiential Storytelling track will feature sessions on more "traditional" forms including interactive documentary. It will also explore such unusual tropes as coloring books as tools for investigating abuse and sexual trauma, Black Gotham Experience's visionary take on the walking tour, and how drones can work to define performative sculpture. Film Conference Programming Trends While most virtual reality program- ming is part of the VR/AR track, the uses of VR in filmmaking necessitate its inclusion in both Film & TV Industry and Making Film & Episodics tracks, too. Suitable for both novices and veterans, VR ses- sions in film tracks include a solo session by Jaunt VR's Daniel Burwen to workshops on volumetric capture and the visual language of VR. Highlights from non-VR film sessions include "Pre-Woke Watching: Your Faves Are Problematic" in which a panel will examine favorite films of the past that have problems that cannot be ignored in the modern day. News & Journalism In the News & Journalism track, Esther Wojcicki, Ed Madison, and Barbara McCormack will discuss how to stop "fake news" in "The Only Solution to Fake News: Education for All."
