SXSW 2018 Stage Manager Handbook 13 PARKING SXSW secures parking options around downtown for our artists to use. However, they are on a first come, first served basis. Artists are not guaranteed parking. • Some parking options are free and some charge. These parking options consist of parking lots, garages, valet stands, as well as bagged meters. • If the parking options closest to your venue are full they will have to park at further-away locations. • Make sure your artists leave enough time for parking and walking back to the venue. • Inform your artists of other modes of transportation (taxi, public transpo, rideshare, etc.) If they aren't traveling with much backline these might be easier options. Although traffic will probably be heavy. • Most of the parking lots & garages cannot accommodate oversized vehicles such as tour buses, oversized vans, or vans with Uhauls. But most of the bagged meters can accommodate oversized vehicles such as tour buses. • Your APM will provide you with an Artist Parking Map which you can share with your artists. We have provided this in advance so that the artist can get a gauge on the cost and various parking lots ahead of time. • This map provides: - cost and rates - Time availability of the parking options - Height Clearance (if applicable) - Availability for oversized vehicles - Parking options by zone • Let your APM know if your artists are traveling by tour bus or an oversized vehicle. We will do our best to find a location for the vehicle to park nearby but there is no guarantee. Oversized vehicle parking is limited so please get all your oversized vehicle needs to your APM asap. They will be able to work with our staff on the best parking option(s) for that vehicle. • If parking in bagged meter spots, which are mostly reserved for oversized vehicles, the artist will need to get a SXSW Artist Parking Pass (usually from your APM). • The SXSW volunteers wearing safety vests will distribute Artist Parking Maps to your bands once they load into their venues. Bands should also receive an Artist Parking Map when they check in at the Austin Convention Center.
