SXSW 2018 Stage Manager Handbook 7 PRESENTERS Presenters assist booking a showcase with a SXSW Music Festival Programmer. The presenter's level of involvement with the artists and shows vary. As a stage manager, you need to figure out their level of involvement. Not all showcases have presenters. Pre-Festival • The music festival programmer will put you in contact with the presenter to determine their level of involvement. • Once in contact with the presenter find out if they're planning to provide backline for artists. Some presenters provide basic backline for artists, ie. drum kit, but may not provide all backline, so be sure to ask what they plan to provide. • Assist them in gathering backline needs for artists, if they plan to provide full backline, or communicate to artists what backline presenters plan to provide in case additional items are needed to perform. • Work with your APM to provide the presenter with the best options for backline companies. • If you run into any issues with presenters, please alert your music festival programmer and APM. Day of Show • Presenters may set up a banner; however, they cannot set it up behind the stage. The official SXSW Banner must be displayed at all times behind the stage. • If the presenter has a guest list, it should already have been approved by the music festival programmer and will arrive with your SXSW Door Staff. Call or text the music festival programmer or, APM if any guest list issues arise on-site. Post Festival • Please get with your music festival programmer and APM if there are any unresolved issues, or further follow up needed. SXSW MUSIC FESTIVAL PROGRAMMER Music festival programmers often have personal relationships with artists and presenters, so be sure to let them know if you're experiencing any issues with artists and presenters. They may have a quick solution to remedy any issues that arise. Pre-Festival • Provide support if you're having any difficulty getting in touch with an artist or presenter. • Assist if there are scheduling issues with an artist. Alert them ASAP if an artist says they cannot play at their scheduled time, or if they are no longer coming. • Monitor the Advancement Tool to check your advancement progress and respond to any inquiries left by you or your APM. Day of Show • Music festival programmers check in on their shows to see how they are doing. • The music festival programmers need your help to keep track of attendance numbers for each set. Your APM will collect attendance from you at the end of each night. • If there are any issues with a presenter or artists please alert both the music festival programmer for that showcase and your APM.
