Tomorrow Happens Here: New and Improved for 2010 Go to the Front of the Line SX XPress (south by express) is a new feature for both the SXSW Music and Film Festivals. Badge holders can pick up advance tickets that will allow them to go to the head of the line at a SXSW music venue or theater. SX Xpress tickets will be distributed on the upper level of the Austin Convention Center near the Film and Music Panels. Tickets are available day of show only and must be used in combination with a registration badge. Generally, we expect that a minimum of 10% of capacity to be issued in advance tickets for each venue. Hours of Operation: FILM: March 12 -16 from 10 am to 6 pm. No film tickets after March 16. MUSIC: March 17 - 20 from 12 to 6 pm. QR Codes To add to your networking experi- ence and help you keep track of the connections you make at SXSW 2010, we will be adding a QR Code to registration badges. A QR Code, or Quick Response Code, is a special kind of bar code that can be read by mobile phones and can contain a link to a website or other information. For SXSW 2010, we are going to use QR Codes on every badge to create a real life "follow me" button for my.SXSW, our registrant social networking platform. Along with your photo on your badge, you will now have a square bar code to scan. Let others scan your badge with their smart phones, and they will instantly be following you on my.SXSW. To read more and even scan a QR Code, see page 72. iPhone apps my.SXSW is the official app for get- ting the most out of the SXSW. The app enables you to view and build your schedule, map conference and festival events, exchange contact info with people you meet, view news, and search attendees, events and venues, all from your phone! SXSW Play is the official new media discovery app for SXSW 2010 and provides users access to a wealth of rich music, film and interactive media with built-in browsing and favorites. Bring SXSW to your iPhone. See Page 73 for more information on these exciting new apps. 99designs T-shirt Contest From October 21-30, 2009, SXSW Interactive partnered with 99designs, the largest community for crowdsourced design, to host a special competition to design t-shirts for SXSW. The online community responded by submitting 658 creative designs to choose from. SXSW somehow managed to narrow the field down to five designs which the SXSW community voted on. The winner was the design with the most votes from the community. The win- ning design, created by 99designs user Renato Quaresma, earned its creator a cash prize and will be sold as a t-shirt along with all of the other SXSW Merch at SXSW 2010. 2 SXSW ORLD / F EBRUAR Y 2010 Gear Alley Expo Located in Exhibit Hall F on the fourth floor of the Austin Convention Center, top music gear manufacturers will show off their latest models and innovations. The Gear Alley Performance Stage Sitting adjacent to the Gear Alley Expo and the Artist Lounge on the fourth floor, this stage offers showcasing musicians a chance to test out the latest gear from manufacturers in an informal setting. Who knows who might show up to test out the gear? Trade Shows and Registration and Check-In Move to the Ground Floor New this year, the SXSW Trade Shows will be featured on the first floor of the Austin Convention Center. This move will allow for more space, higher visibility for presenters and easier access for everyone. Also, Registration and Check-In is moving from the fourth floor to Exhibit Hall 3 on the first floor.
