SATURDAY MARCH 13 SXSW STILL HAS THE laid back feel of an early Linklater film, but has also become the Ground Zero of a distinctly non-slacker breed of future-thinking artists and entrepreneurs. It was an honor to walk amongst them with my film. - Jeff Deutchman, Director: 11/4/08 AS A WRITER/PRO- DUCER, I look forward to SXSW every year. You can't beat the easy access to other industry professionals as well as the chance to see the latest narratives and documentaries. And this year, the wide range of conference panels gave audiences the opportu- nity to hear former SXSW filmmakers discuss the indie landscape, as well as executives presenting new ways to get your films into the marketplace. No other festival does a better job of combining the creative side of filmmaking with the business side of dis- tribution and marketing. And then, of course, there are the parties... -Suzanne Weinert, Screenwriter/ Producer: ExTerminators I WENT TO AUSTIN AND took a ride on the Zappos Delivering Happiness bus. I went to a Polynesian fusion restaurant and got mentored in the moonlight. Did I mention there's a lot of free stuff (literally and figuratively speaking) that you can actually use when you get home? SXSW brings together music and inter- active media with film as THE connective tissue. I found myself constantly engaged in conversation with new people who were all looking to the next while building upon the foundation of their creative dreams. It's funky, fluid and not forced. - Lisa Cortés, President: Cortés Films; Executive Producer: Precious: Based on the novel 'Push' by Sapphire Directors Ti West, Neil Marshall and Scott Weinberg (of Cinematical) during the SXSW Film Conference panel "Directing the Dead."
