Saturday, March 12 OUR FILM HAPPY NEW YEAR is a highly enter- taining, yet hard-hitting, look at the perils of Post- Traumatic Stress Disorder. When our military adviser Joseph Harrell informed a few friends in Texas that the movie would be playing at SXSW, word spread like wildfi re. Various veterans groups in Austin and surrounding areas began to organize, putting together a mas- sive plan to descend upon the State Theatre for our World Premiere. However, we soon learned how challenging it might be for them to get tickets without purchasing badges. Pandemonium struck. We opened dozens of emails from disappointed veterans and their families who wanted a chance to see the fi lm. Finally, we contacted Janet Pierson (SXSW Film Producer) and presented her with our dilemma. She offered us a satellite screening the day after our premiere, where we screened for 125 vet- erans and their families. Noted fi lm critic Elvis Mitchell, who was already a huge fan of the fi lm, moderated an emotion- ally-charged Q&A. It was a groundbreaking screening and a format that we've since employed at Kansas City and Sarasota. - K.
