MY SOUTH-BY Tuesday–Friday, March 8-11 Registrants, panelists, filmmakers and artists recap SXSW 2011 in their own words. ATTENDING SXSW WAS A DREAM and an experi- ence I'll never forget. I want to say the best part was seeing so many great fi lms and meeting new people, or maybe it was the chocolate milkshakes at the Alamo South Lamar. While those things were all great, I think the best BEST part was being in an atmosphere where you can try new things and step out of your comfort zone. I can't remember the last time I felt so excited about not knowing what was going to happen next. - Giancarlo Iannotta (My Big Red Purse) Director Duncan Jones, Michelle Monaghan, Jake Gyllenhaal and Vera Farmiga at the SXSW premiere of Source Code. SXSW IS WHERE YOU ARE SWEPT UP into the next tech trend as it happens. And some- times you become the trend. We launched our group messaging app Grouped{In} that week, harnessing all our local Austin prowess. We quickly realized this was THE year of group messaging, and the crowd's incredible energy only facilitated it. The beauty of SXSW is watching an idea launch and rise within a matter of days. We thought we knew what to expect with SXSW, having watched it from the inside for years, but even we were surprised by the scene group messaging apps created at the festival. SXSW is a place to discover brand new opportunities you might have not even thought about yet. – Brian Magierski (Appconomy) From left: directors Monte Hellman, Mike Judge, Robert Rodriguez, festival producer Janet Pierson and director Richard Linklater at the SXSW Filmmaker Luncheon. SXSW EDU Spotlight Session with Rockdale ISD's Howell Wright, and Evan Smith of the Texas Tribune. David Carr and director Andrew Rossi at the premiere of Page One: Inside the New York Times.
