INTERACTIVE Competition Submission Deadlines: Final Entry Deadline for 2012 Interactive Awards: November 18 Final Entry Deadline for 2012 SXSW Accelerator: November 18 FILM Submission Deadlines: Late Deadline: November 1 Last Minute Deadline: November 15 MUSIC Showcase Submission Deadline: November 4 Startup Village: Uniting the Entrepreneur Community SXSW's new Startup Village will provide a space where venture capitalists, angel investors, entre- preneurs, early adopters, startups, business educators and associated service providers can engage. Programming at the Startup Village will consist of panels, pitch events, meet-ups and a lounge area, with the popular Interactive and Music Accelerator events as centerpieces. Startup Village will be open Friday, March 9 through Wednesday, March 14. From Friday though Tuesday, events will be on the fourth fl oor of the Austin Downtown Hilton (500 E. 4th St.) before moving across the street to the Austin Convention Center for Wednesday's sessions. Programming will be open to SXSW Interactive, Gold, and Platinum registrants Friday through Wednesday, and for Music badgeholders on Tuesday and Wednesday. Buzz Screenings to Utilize Tugg Each year during SXSW Film, movies that have gener- ated considerable buzz among audiences are scheduled for repeat screenings during the festival in order to allow more people to see what everyone is talking about. For 2012, instead of being based solely on word-of-mouth reputation, Buzz Screenings will be programmed with the help of Tugg, a new social networking tool that helps audiences communicate what they want to see directly to SXSW Film programmers. Tuesday Music Showcases Expanded In celebration of SXSW's 25th anniversary, the 2011 SXSW Music Festival began a day earlier than usual, offering a limited number of offi c ial showcases on Tuesday of the SXSW week. In response to the amazing success of those performances, SXSW will offer an even bigger lineup of Tuesday showcases in 2012. SXSWedu to Welcome a LeVar Burton After successful launch in see sxsw.com/interactive/ StyleX Returns After a smashing debut in 2011, Style X will be back for more action in 2012, featuring twice as many designers and panels as well as even bigger runway shows fea- turing SXSW musicians as models. A major new segment of Style X will feature showrooms and collectives of emerging designers such as The Foundation, a showroom that represents streetwear brand Play Cloths, Super sunglasses, Urbanears headphones and Native shoes. Also showcasing will be the Durable Goods Concern, a collection of pri- marily San Francisco-based designers and labels such as ready-to-wear shirt maker Taylor Stitch. In addition, a number of emerging designers will make their debuts at Style X, joined by a number of returning favorites from last year's event. Designers interested in showcasing at Style X are encour- aged to apply at: sxsw.com/style_x_application Getting Around SXSW 2012 Though Austin's downtown area is fairly compact and easy to navigate on foot or by bike, SXSW will offer additional transportation options to help registrants move easily from place to place. The free Interactive Campus Express will have multiple routes circulating registrants to the various IA campuses throughout the day and to a few specifi c parties over the fi ve days of SXSW Interactive: sxsw.com/attend/ getting_around/interactive_campus The Film Fest Flyer will offer one circulating route connecting the Austin Convention Center, Alamo South Lamar, Rollins Theatre and The Paramount / State theatres: sxsw.com/attend/getting_around/ fi lm_venues Music fans can catch a ride on the Auditorium Shores Shuttle to the outdoor shows at Auditorium Shores (Thursday through Saturday). Shuttles will depart one block from the Austin Convention Center, at 3rd and San Jacinto. The Auditorium Shores Shuttle is free for badge holders: sxsw.com/attend/getting_around/ auditorium_shores 2011, SXSWedu is expanding to provide three days of compelling content that addresses innovations in learning, March 6–8, 2012, at the Austin Downtown Hilton. Actor, director, author and life-long literacy advocate LeVar Burton has been confi rmed as one of the keynote speakers. Also new in 2012 is LAUNCHedu, an entrepreneur's com- petition for startup businesses in the education space, modeled on the successful SXSW Accelerator program.
