52 PROMOTIONAL MATERIALS Promotional Materials Crew Chiefs: Eric, Kymberli, Soledad, Eva, Joe, Melissa Promotional Materials Days of Operation: March 9 - 19, 2016 Promotional Materials Check In: Volunteers who work on this crew will check in at Production Village, located in Exhibit Hall 5 in the Austin Convention Center (ACC). Exhibit Hall 5 is located on the northeast side of the ACC. Promotional Materials will function at the south end of the Exhibit Hall. Promotional Materials Volunteer Responsibilities & Duties: The Promotional Materials crew is responsible for stuffing the promotional bags for registrants and handing them out. Volunteers can expect to be on their feet for quite some time throughout their shift. This is the case when either filling tote bags with directories and guides or handing bags out to excited registrants and volunteers. Volunteers can expect to work in a fast- paced working environment to keep up with the rush of attendees expecting their promotional materials, but they can also expect almost equal downtime to rest their feet from the assembly line-like duties that they will perform. Volunteers are expected to act as ambassadors of SXSW and treat everyone involved nicely. What Else Should Volunteers Know About the Promotional Materials Crew: Promotional Materials is an extremely fun crew to work for. You get to meet many attendees that come through the line, as well as cool volunteers who have been working with the crew for a long time or are new to the team. A few terms to know ahead of time: • Queen Mary - four-level rolling cart that is used to transport bags from the back to front • Pallet - wooden platform used to stock filled bags • Pallet Jack - tool used to manually transport pallets around Promotional Materials Attire and Reminders: Promotional Materials Crew Volunteers should wear their volunteer t-shirt and tasteful bottoms. Due to the setting of the crew and the materials that will be handled, ALL volunteers are asked to wear closed-toed shoes during their shift. All other accessories such as gloves will be provided. The temperature in the Austin Convention Center can fluctuate from cold to hot, so we recommend bringing layers (ex. hoodie, sweater, jacket) if you tend to get cold and sensible footwear to keep your feet comfortable throughout your shift. If you will be working before you receive your credential (for example, you may be waiting for a music badge, but working during Interactive) you will need to pick up a working volunteer day pass from Volunteer Central. How to Contact the Promotional Materials Crew: Volunteers will be given each crew chief's cell number to contact them directly in case they may be late/miss a shift. Volunteers are also encouraged to email their crew chiefs at sxpromo@gmail.com. If it's less than 2 hours prior to the start of your shift, first email your crew, then call the Flake Task Force at (512) 404-4623 if you're going to be late or miss the shift.
