What's Happening Now & Exciting Things to Come! NEW & NOTEWORTHY South by Southwest unites creative disciplines with a wide array of businesses to foster an environment that will spark the next big thing. Here are some of the people, ideas, industries and innovations that are taking us there. Amazing speakers are at the core of SXSW, and V2V was no exception. Steve Case, Tony Hsieh, Lauren Bush Lauren, Donna Fenn, Andy White, Scott Belsky, Emily Best, Kimberly James, Micah Baldwin, Jenn Deering Davis, Amy Jo Martin, Andy Budd, Lisa Ghisolf, Brian Solis, Christine Herron, Frank Gruber, Laura Deming, Joanna Schwartz, Stephanie Burns, Blake Robinson, Toby Daniels, Andrew Hyde, Liz Bacelar, Margaret Francis, Kate Rutter, Lane Becker, Jennifer Bonnett and Tim League all took part, along with professionals from across the many creative industries that SXSW serves. The inaugural V2Venture pitch event was epic. After an intense day of honing their pitches in front of seasoned coaches and mentors, five finalists in five categories presented their projects to an esteemed panel of judges. Tipbit took home the prize in Mobile and Tablet Technologies, and Glowing Plant won The Innovative World Technologies top spot. For Education Technologies, the winner was LightSail. Soundfest dominated Health Technologies, and Zazoo topped Culture and Entertainment. The Best Bootstrap Award went to Helios Bars, and Handii took home the One Minute Speed Pitch Award. V2V Brings SXSW to Las Vegas From August 11-14, SXSW ventured into the desert for V2V, a first-ever SXSW event in Las Vegas, Nevada. Entrepreneurs and innovators, angels and VCs, tinkerers and creatives converged on the Cosmopolitan of Las Vegas for four days of inspirational speakers and informative panels and workshops, along with a diverse mentor program, an exciting pitch event, productive networking and other cool SXSW-style events. 6 SXSWORLD / NOVEMBER 2013 Of course, it wouldn't be SXSW without film, music and amazing networking events. V2V opened on a Sunday night with an extravaganza featuring DJs Tourmaline and Bad Beat. On Monday night, we moved downtown for an evening that started off with a networking mixer presented by Tech Cocktail at The Gold Spike, and closed with a special music showcase at Backstage Bar & Billiards that featured Jackie Chain, Palmbomen and Elektrik People. A special screening of Cheap Thrills, winner of the the 2013 SXSW Film Festival's SXSW Midnighter Audience Award, opened Tuesday night, which closed with another great night of music at Backstage Bar & Billiards and featured Rusty Maples, The Chain Gang of 1974 and Nightmare Air. We closed it all down on Wednesday night with an epic closing party at Hyde at the Bellagio. The best news? We're doing it again in 2014! Don't miss it!
