SXSW 2018 Stage Manager Handbook 5 YOU WILL ADVANCE YOUR SHOWCASES WITH: • APM • VENUE • BANDS/ARTISTS • PRESENTERS • MUSIC FESTIVAL PROGRAMMERS • STAGE CREW All of the above will play a key role in your showcase. Communication will be vital before and during the festival to ensure a smooth execution. APM - ASSIST PRODUCTION MANAGER • APMs oversee approximately 6-8 venues within a zone. Your APM will be working within the Stage Manager Advancement Tool alongside you, so think of them as a guide. They are your first resource for any questions you have. APMs have a lot of experience advancing shows and they have a general understanding of SXSW, which will help you throughout the advancement process. Pre-Festival • If you're a new stage manager, you'll meet with your APM weekly at the stage manager training sessions. If you're a returning stage manager, you'll schedule to meet with your APM face-to-face at one of the stage manager trainings. There are many things that they will need from you: oversized vehicle information, backline needs of your artists, and general status updates throughout the advancement process. They are your best friend, so keep in constant communication with them! They will provide you with: • Assist with matching your artist backline needs with the best backline company • Artist parking maps • Assistance with artist's oversized vehicles Day of Show • Routinely check in with you and your stage crew • Follow up with music festival programmer if an artist doesn't check in • Provide support • Troubleshoot any issues that arise • Stay late with rented backline that may need to be picked up Post-Festival • Assist with any lingering issues
