THURSDAY MARCH 18 MY SXSW VEERED drastically, though posi- tively from the original plan on the first day of the (Music) festival. In a twist of fate, while working the trade show's Canadian Blast booth, I met the infamous Hollywood record producer, Kim Fowley. The next afternoon, receiving precise instructions, this indie music publicist from western Canada found herself working through red carpet flashbulbs to attend the premiere of The Runaways with Fowley, the man who created the band behind the story. It was a very fruitful year and I am connecting now with many folks who I may never have had the chance to connect with through regular business dealings! - Joelle May, ModMay Promotions (Calgary, AB) THE WHOLE DUBSPOT CREW had a blast at SXSW this year, from the Gear Show to our official Funk Aid party. Seeing the rise of DJ culture was espe- cially great for us, as that is our business and why we came. From the Mad Descent carnival, to the Ancient Astronauts, Glitch Mob, Daedelus at the AM Only showcase, seeing and hearing about the ever- expanding representation of electronic and non-tra- ditional music at SXSW has made us look forward to the future. We can't wait to come back and bring the Dubspot experience in a bigger way. - Adam Sellers, Dubspot (New York, NY) The Runaways at the Paramount (l to r) Dakota Fanning, director Floria Sigismondi and Kristen Stewart . Judy Collins participated in the "Where Goes English Folk Music?" panel. The newly reunited Man or Astro-man? at Club de Ville. The Cool Kids at the Auditorium Shores Stage.
