WEDNESDAY MARCH 17 WE PLAYED AT KLUB KRUCIAL on Wednesday night. Just so happens that Nas and Damian "Jr. Gong" Marley were playing next door at Emo's. Right before our set, I ran next door to get a listen from outside the venue. I heard them saying "Thank you. Goodnight." Then the door I was eavesdropping behind opened, and Nas walks out and off into the Austin night. So, I run back next door to hop on stage for our 1 am set. One song in, Jr. Gong walks in with his crew, and they vibe to our whole set. Afterwards, we chopped it up and put our latest album, DIRTY GENES in his hands. I told him he must know a li'l something about dirty genes. He got a good laugh out of that. - Easy Lee, MoJoe (San Antonio, TX) I AM A HUGE BILL MURRAY fan! I can't even pick a favorite movie. First, I saw the back of his head. But never could I have imagined that he would actually speak to me. At the crowded Growlers' show, he tapped me on the shoulder, and said, "Excuse me, can you move?" All I wanted to say back was "Wooody the wabbit!" cuz Meatballs rules! - Xander Smith, RUN RUN RUN (Los Angeles, CA) FOR SYSTEMA SOLAR, SXSW was a first showing of our work outside of Colombia, and a unique opportunity to make it to the USA. For Colombian artists, it is extremely hard, and many times impos- sible, to be granted a visa into the USA. The fact that SXSW is such an important event at an international scale and because of the relentless work of SXSW, we were able to get visas for the group and per- formed in two showcases. To us this felt as thought we were breaking down borders and conquering mountains, as we were finally able to perform our art, share our music, our vibes, our aesthetic, our videos, our joy and spirit with a North American public. We are grateful to SXSW for this oportunity and wish the organizers sucess in their continuous work supporting artists from parts of the world that otherwise would not get an opportunity to perform on US soil." - Pata de Perro, Systema Solar (Taganga, Colombia) FOR BOMBA ESTÉREO, SXSW gets even better every year! - Simon Mejia, Bomba Estereo (Bogota, Colombia) Miike Snow at the Galaxy Room Backyard.
