the attack from happening. "It's a thriller that definitely has some sensibilities of an old Hitchcock film, but very much updated, "Jones describes. "Although it's a bigger film, it still has an independent sen- sibility to it." That independent sensibility includes an injection of Jones' fond- ness for dark humor, but also a few ambitious special effects. "There's some cool stuff in the film that no one's really done before," he admits. As for his filmmaking influences, even though Jones comes across as the type of guy you would play video games with while discussing whether Star Wars or Star Trek was better, his tastes range from Terry Gilliam to Akira Kurosawa to Luc Besson: "I always like rich, rich character, but I do appreciate those directors who are able to make things visually interesting and sumptuous." That is exactly what Jones plans to do as he continues to try to make engrossing and visually arresting films. Apart from working on two more sci-fi projects and a western, Jones says he has big plans in store for the future: "I love the idea of doing world creation. I want MARCH 9 - 13, 2011 TORONTO, CANADA KEYNOTE SPEAKERS MELISSA ETHERIDGE SAMMY HAGAR to create worlds—historic worlds and other genre worlds— these rich places that you actually believe exist. If I can tell stories in new worlds and create places you really wish you could visit, that's really where I want to go." But first Jones is off to Austin, and as a long time gamer and genre nerd who is not afraid to hide his passion for all things geek, Jones says that his first stop in Austin will be to take his girlfriend to the Museum of the Weird. Then, it's off to a venue he didn't get to visit when he was at SXSW with Moon. "Another place I'm dying to go is the Alamo Drafthouse," he says with genuine excitement. "I've heard so many stories about it, and I would just love to go there. It sounds like the perfect place to see a movie." Most importantly, Jones is ready for Source Code to open the curtain on this year's SXSW Film Festival: "It was such a big deal to open up Moon at SXSW two years ago, and even though I was new to the whole festival experience they really treated me like one of the family ... It's an amazing festival and an amazing place to be. It is absolutely my privilege to come back with my second film, which is a bit bigger, and say, 'Look, we really appreciate you guys, and it's our privilege to be able to show the film here first.' " n The world premiere of Source Code will open the 2011 SXSW Film Festival on Friday, March 11. Stay tuned to sxsw.com/film for more details. SNOOP DOGG CHECK OUT OUR SHOWCASE AT SXSW!
