GAMING ... A GLOBAL WAY OF LIFE What are games? They can be generally summarized as: Players acting in accor- dance with set rules and having success or failure determined by skill, strength or chance. Games, though often sim- ple, can focus on such complex human activities as language, law, philosophy and conflict. When paired with today's technological advancements, the future of gaming seems boundless. Game-playing is one of our oldest forms of social interaction, with rules often framing the boundaries of acceptable and unacceptable actions within a giv- en culture. Games have been powerful vessels for passing down cultural tradi- tions and identity to future genrations, It is no wonder then that today's gam- ing culture is global. This is on display at the SXSW Gaming Conference & Festival in the number of countries represented on the Gamer's Voice Stage, in the Student Showcase, presented by The Art Institutes, and at the Pitch Competition, presented by Streamline Studios.
