Great Showcases, No Spanish Required SXSW MUSIC News + Notes Panels Panels Panels There are three more full days of panels and speakers at the SXSW Music Conference. Here are some of the highlights. Check out this year's show tonight (Thursday) at Speakeasy (412 Congress Ave.) fea- turing Hotel Mama, De Juepuchas, Herencia de Timbiqui, Profetas and Pernett. De Juepuchas Intolerancia, the Mexico City-based music industry powerhouse, will present its fi rs Capo Vicente Gayo, Capo, The Hong Kong Blood Opera, Doctor Krapula, Descartes a Kant and Estados Alterados. The Sounds from Spain showcase at SXSW 2011, hap- pening on Friday at Red Eyed Fly (715 Red River St.), will feature some of the top artists in modern Spanish music who refl ect the depth and diversity of that country's music scenes. The lineup includes Telephunken, Depedro, Mujeres, Russian Red and Polock, Spain's hottest indie rockers, will perform. Mujeres CATALAN! Toko Sex Destruction Catch the DJ Invasion in the Gear Alley Expo Head to Exhibit Hall 2 on the fi rst fl oor of the Austin Convention Center and check out the Gear Alley Expo. Every day at 1pm in the Gear Alley Garage bar, top DJs will be on hand. Today (Thursday), catch the Ableton Live Session with Ocote Soul Sounds' Martín Perna & Friends. This one-hour session will fea- ture brief technical explanations and live musical collaborations between Perna and members of Ocote Soul Sounds, as well as with Dubspot instructors Thavius Beck and Pat Cupo, and ESL label mates Ancient Astronauts. Tomorrow (Friday), join Ableton's Huston Singletary and Rane's DJ Big Wiz as they discuss and demonstrate The Bridge, a new product from Serato & Ableton that com- bines production and DJing. Then stick around for a custom DJ set from DJ Big Wiz. Thavius Beck On Saturday, help Dubspot celebrate its new online electronic music production and DJ school. There will be DJ sets from Dubspot instructors Thavius Beck, Matt Shadetek and Ancient Astronauts, using Ableton Live & Serato. Bobby Rush • Saturday (March 19): SXSW Interview: John Popper Room 12AB, 2 - 3pm SXSW Interview: Bobby Rush Room 16A, 3:30 - 4:30pm True Till Def at SXSW Thrasher Magazine, Shinebox Recordings, Chronic Youth and Tee Pee Records join forces to present True Til Def, a showcase of heavy music sure to hammer even the hardest skull.
