Convention Center Happenings As you certainly know by now, SXSW is in full swing. Don't miss out on the terrifi c events going on for the rest of conference in the Austin Convention Center. The Exhibition for Creative Industries' FINAL DAY The Texas Guitar Show Now in its 30th year, the Texas Guitar Show is back for its third visit to SXSW, with thousands of new and used guitars, amps, banjos, mandolins, effects, memorabilia, sound gear, parts, drums, violins, books and accessories. Bring your musical instru- ments to sell, trade or have appraised. Today (Thursday, March 17) from 11am - 6pm is your last chance to visit the SXSW 2011 trade show and meet presenters from the interactive, fi lm and music worlds. The Meet Up Pavilion will host its last two mingling and net- working events at 12:30 and 3pm. The Next Stage features a full slate of discussions, interviews and performances running from 12 - 6pm, including the Trade Show Wrap Party featuring Asleep At The Wheel, starting at 5pm. Gear Alley Expo Now in its second year, the Gear Alley Expo brings together musicians and gear manufacturers. The Gear Alley Garage lounge and bar will feature DJ Invasion sets, with top name DJs, every afternoon at 1pm. In addition, you can catch Speed Sets: 10 minute shows by selected showcasing bands, today and Friday (March 18) at 4pm, and Saturday (March 19) at 3pm. Gear Alley Expo is located in Exhibit Hall 2 on Level 1 and will be open today and Friday from 12 - 6pm, as well as from 12 - 5pm on Saturday. Steve Jones And be on the lookout for Sex Pistols legend Steve Jones (host of KROQ's Jonesy's Jukebox), who will be interviewing bands in NXTM's cool Airstream trailer studio. Not only that, the event is also free and open to the public and will be held in Exhibit Hall 3 on Level 1, Friday and Saturday from 10am - 6pm. Convention Center Day Stages While the nightly showcases get most of the attention at SXSW Music, expe- rienced attendees know that the Austin Convention Center's day stages offer relaxed and intimate settings where they can see showcasing artists up close. The Radio Day Stage, located on the fourth fl oor in Ballroom D, features artists curated by top independent radio stations including WFUV (New York City), The Current (Minneapolis), KUT (Austin), WXPN (Philadelphia) and KEXP (Seattle). The Dot Com Stage, presented by SESAC, is located in Ballroom G on the fourth fl oor and features artists chosen by selected music websites and blogs, including BrooklynVegan, RCRD LBL, Sala de Espera, Consequence of Sound and Clash Music. Shows on both stages run from 12 - 6pm today and Friday, and from 12 - 3pm on Saturday. Schedule information can be found at sxsw.com/music. Flatstock 29 Presented by Rovi More than 100 poster artists will display and sell concert posters for artist and venues representing thousands of bands and international venues in the 29th installment of Flatstock, co-presented by the American Poster Institute (API) and SXSW. The exhibition can be found on Level 1 in Ballrooms A, B and C and is free and open to the public. Hours are today through Saturday from 11am - 6pm. South By Bookstore While you are visiting the day stages, stop by the South By Bookstore, hosted by Barnes and Noble, open 10am - 6pm every day on the fourth fl oor in the Ballroom D Foyer. Watch out for daily book signings by featured authors. Second Play Stages Second Play Stages are evening shows, held at 6 and 7pm, that feature exclusively offi cial SXSW 2011 showcasing artists at several SXSW hotels, including the Hilton, Radisson, Sheraton, Hyatt, Embassy Suites, Wyndham Garden Hotel and Holiday Inn Town Lake.
