Wednesday–Thursday, March 16-17 WHILE MANAGING THE NORTH AMERICAN 7DIGITAL.COM STORES (based out of London), I experience the music I promote and the people I work with through a computer or communica- tion device. SXSW allows me to see all my label contacts and spend time with my US colleagues face to face, without having to travel to ten different cities. Instead of a conference call about a SXSW Featured Speaker: Andrew W.K. priority release, franti- cally typing notes into a schedule or staring at album cover art, I am introduced to new artists through their live shows, which are often unforget- table. The artist interviews were another amazing out-of-desk experience I will remember. I left my interview with Linda Perry feeling that I truly had just met the most badass rock chick in the world. I would wish for SXSW every month, yet my desk would miss me and I couldn't actually keep up, because unlike Linda Perry, I am not that badass. – Anna Siegel, 7digital North American Store Manager WHY I DO WHAT I DO: Red Ryder had nine art- ists performing 57 shows during SXSW Music. To date, Typhoon, our little 12 orchestra, had confi ned their touring to their home region, the Northwest. Over the four days of SXSW Music, interest in the band grew rapidly, and performances were increasingly packed, peaking at our Red Ryder showcase on Saturday evening at Central Presbyterian Church. The buzz was palpable, and I knew in my gut that Typhoon was ascending to the next level before my eyes. In the two weeks following SXSW, Typhoon confi rmed four major North American festivals and are in con- sideration for multiple fall tours. Launchpad = SXSW! – Erik Selz, (Red Ryder Entertainment) AFTER MAKING THE DECISION TO CREATE MODERN OUTSIDER RECORDS + MANAGEMENT LATE LAST YEAR, we couldn't think of a better way to properly launch the Game designer and astronaut Richard Garriott and Austin Chronicle publisher Nick Barbaro play Jeopardy! with IBM's super computer WATSON.
