Monday, March 14 OH AUSTIN, CITY OF MANY JOYS, ODDI- TIES AND STRANGE EVENTS. What an exciting place to be during the week of SXSW. Following one of the screenings of Bellfl ower at the wonder- fully awesome Alamo Drafthouse on South Lamar, we walked over to Gourdoughs Trailer park to have a little after party. You know, eat some incredible deep fried delicacies, drink some beer, hang out ... and have a cricket eating contest. In the movie, Jessie Wiseman and writer/director/star Evan Glodell go head-to- head in a cricket eating contest, so in the spirit of promotion and all around fun, our distributor, Oscilloscope, set up a cricket eating contest at the party and opened the door for volunteers to compete. I had the pleasure of MC'ing the event (which with no mic basically meant screaming at the top of my lungs). We had several brave volunteers from the crowd, but the main event was to be a showdown between our very own Jessie and Tim League (founder of the Alamo Drafthouse, who originally thought it was a "cookie eating contest"). Tim had just come from a drunken panel so he was primed and ready to go. When the cloth was taken off of the glass casing, the smell was unbear- able. But they went at it, jamming handfuls of the Senator Al Franken gives a presentation on "Net Neutrality."
