Thursday– Friday, March 15-16 town, and he said he caught wind of that, so I asked if he was gonna come and play the song. Bruce said if he showed up, they'd play it, and "if the band doesn't know the song, I'm fi ring everyone, including myself!" Lo and behold, Burdon showed up, and the band played the song unrehearsed. After the show, I got a photo with Jimmy Cliff and, along with my buddies Mike Irwin from the Low Anthem and Sean O'Brien, fell into a deep conversation with Max Weinberg about drummers. That conversation felt like it lasted a lifetime and by the time it wrapped up, we turned around, and no one was backstage except a few members of the Low Anthem ... and Springsteen. Bruce proceeded to talk to us for an hour. It was like our own pri- vate keynote. He kept saying that his whole life, he had been "Workin' on a building! Workin' on a building!" as he would do this hammering motion. When you're in his presence, it is as if his entire existence has been dedicated to creating a nation-state of joyous rock'n'roll, and everyone he loves is right there with him in his creation. His energy was surreal. Most musicians I know can barely hold a conversation after playing 45 minutes, and here he was talking to us without pause for an hour, and he had just wrapped a three-hour set. –Jesse Lauter (Producer/ Engineer) The Oyster Princess screening with live performance by Bee vs. Moth at Alamo Ritz.
