Wednesday–Thursday, March 14-15 ALL IN ALL WE VIEW THIS JAUNT TO SXSW AS A REAL SUCCESS IN TERMS OF THE GOALS WE SET OUT. These shows have led us to secure European booking services, meet several European promoters and we're in the fi nal stages of fi nalising key licensing deals for the US and Europe for our album. On the back of all this, we've added more European shows and festivals and are preparing to return to the US for a six month minimum stay. Gary Clark Jr. at La Zona Rosa, presented by The Warner Sound Captured by Nikon. The future is unwritten but we're ready for it. SXSW was certainly a catalyst in looking at what we can achieve through sheer hard work. –The Minutes (showcasing band) THE MISSISSIPPI MUSIC SHOWCASE OFFERED SOME INTERESTING STORIES both at the microphone and behind the scenes. Shannon McNally recounted the day fellow artist Charlie Mars saved her (and her three-year old) from a monumental "pukefest." And Charlie shared how he learned to sex it up a bit, no disco balls required. Meanwhile in the impro- vised green room, bluesmen Jimmie "Duck" Holmes and Johnny Rawls played an impromptu guitar duet while trading stories about their grandbabies and life on the road. And Wooden Finger's vocalist Allison Jenkins glowed about her experi- ence as a model for Style X. In true SXSW fashion, the show demonstrated just how Alex Winter (R) interviewed Napster co-founders Sean Parker (L) and Shawn Fanning. so many diverse personali- ties, styles and interests can come together to make sweet, sweet harmony. –Alex Thomas (Program Manager: Mississippi Blues Trail/ Mississippi Tourism) WHEN YOU CAN SHOW UP ONTO A PANEL ("Haircut & Attitude- The Artist's Image") that legendary photographer Bob Gruen is moderating, sitting next to the likes of John Varvatos, BP Fallon, and Jesse Malin, and Bob says "Anna, why don't you begin?" As a 25 year old working as a career music industry photographer, this is a dream come true. But still, I am a 25 year old girl, who absolutely has not taken a photo of Led Zeppelin standing next to their air- plane, and need to come up with something relevant and engaging to say to impress my idols. SXSW is not real life. It all envelops into a dream, no way to expect the magnitude of things that can happen in a few short Nico Vega at Empire Automotive, presented by The Roxy.
