Monday – Tuesday, March 12-13 facade. –Lily Baldwin (Director: Sea Meadow) I'VE BEEN UNOFFICIALLY ATTENDING SXSW FOR THE PAST FOUR YEARS, lining up hours in advance for small fi lms and walking around the convention center just to try and catch glimpses of my indie heroes. The opportunity I had this year to speak on a panel and showcase the work we had poured ourselves into was completely surreal and incred- ible. Being even just a small part of this festival has given me the surge of motivation to come back with a fi lm of my own. –Bao Truong (Kudu Kollectiv) MY FAVORITE THING WAS WAITING IN LINE WITH OTHER PEOPLE. At fi rst it was driving me crazy, but ... you're there for an hour with people who all like the same stuff and have a much cooler conversa- tion there than you would in a bar. –Phil Lord (Co-Director: 21 Jump Street) GETTING THE INVITE FROM SXSW WAS A DREAM COME TRUE FOR ME. In the weeks leading up to the fes- tival, I worked more and slept less than I ever have before in my life, which might explain why the whole experience was so surreal. The festival creates an open, fresh vibe like nothing I'd ever experienced, bringing together diverse fi lm- makers who were all as thrilled to be there was I was. And I'm glad we stayed through the end and got to see the transi- tion into the music festival. I haven't felt a city so alive since I was at Carnival in Brasil! Pinterest co-founder Ben Silbermann. Jennifer Pahlka delivered her Tuesday keynote address: "Coding the Next Chapter of American History."
