SXSW GUIDEBOOK 2017 1 3 6 REFERENCE & MAPS SXSW POLICIES SXSW CODE OF CONDUCT SXSW helps creative people achieve their goals. One way we do this is by serving as a platform for engaging, thought-provoking conversations and discussions. However, SXSW is not a place for conversations, discussions, and behavior that are intentionally inappropriate, off-topic, disruptive, or abusive. SXSW defines inappropriate behavior as any form of verbal or physical abuse, the use of derogatory or discriminatory language, gestures or actions, any form of harassment, racism, sexism, or any other targeted comments which are intended to cause personal offense to another SXSW participant either in- person at the event or through social media channels, including but not limited to comments via SXSW PanelPickerĀ®, or the violation of any local or state laws. SXSW may take action at its discretion against any individual(s) or group(s) it believes fail to meet the standards set forth in this Code of Conduct, including but not limited to revoking the violating parties' credentials without refund. Please contact conduct@sxsw.com if you believe you've observed or experienced a violation of this Code of Conduct, and SXSW will work to assess the situation and to respond as soon as possible. Please remember that notifying SXSW does not constitute or replace a notification to local law enforcement. All violations of the law should be reported to local law enforcement. For emergencies, immediately dial 9-1-1. For non-emergencies, the Austin Police Department is available at (512) 974-5000. The Austin Convention Center phone number is (512) 404-4000. RESTROOM POLICY SXSW pledges to continue to make our event inclusive, diverse, and forward-thinking. We oppose discriminatory legislation such as the Texas SB6 "bathroom bill," and we support everyone's right to use the public facilities that conform with their individual identity. SUSTAINABILITY EFFORTS SXSW acknowledges its environmental impact and takes responsibility for being an advocate for best practices. We will demonstrate leadership in efforts to integrate principles of environmental sustainability into our organizational practices. We strive to implement solutions that limit and mitigate the environmental effects of our operations and events. WEAPONS-FREE POLICY SXSW is a private event and attending Participants are prohibited from carrying weapons of any kind, including concealed or displayed firearms. Participants are not permitted to bring weapons onto the premises of any official SXSW event. SXSW reserves the right to require Participants who violate this policy to immediately leave the premises of any official SXSW event, and to deactivate and/or revoke their Credentials. Each Participant agrees that this policy is in force, and agrees to comply with this policy, regardless of whether signs prohibiting weapons are posted at the premises of any official SXSW event. UNMANNED AERIAL VEHICLE (DRONE) POLICY The world of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs or drones) is evolving daily. In the name of safety and security SXSW prohibits UAVs/drones at official SXSW events. Exceptions may be made in advance of the event for entities who apply for permission in writing and can demonstrate that the UAV can be operated safely and without inconveniencing anyone and will have a beneficial impact on the event. No one will be allowed to operated an UAV at a SXSW event without prior written consent. POSTERING AND PROMOTIONS Promotional materials and posters may not be distributed, displayed, or attached to walls, fixtures, furnishings, etc. in or around the Austin Convention Center or any of SXSW's hotels or venues. Unauthorized materials or posters will be disposed of and the responsible party will be responsible for any damage. The sole exceptions are the plastic wrapped columns inside and outside the Convention Center where posters can be hung promoting official SXSW events or participants. CONFERENCE SESSION CAPACITY POLICY It is SXSW's policy to limit attendance at all its conference and festival venues to the maximum capacity authorized by the City of Austin Fire Marshall. When a conference session has reached that capacity the doors will be closed and no additional attendees admitted. In Keynote and Featured Sessions a Priority Access line will be maintained and the SXSW staff member in charge may use their discretion to admit additional attendees if people leave and the room drops below capacity.
