C O M 2016 SXSW Community Fund Grant Recipients This summer, we announced the recipients of the SXSW Community Fund Grant with five deserving charities each being awarded $10,000 for pro- grams taking place in 2015 / 2016 for a total of $50,000 in grants. SXSW Community Fund Grants recognize solutions to local community issues, especially when they can improve the lives of the underprivileged or disenfranchised, as they relate to one of the following events in the SXSW family: Interactive, Film, Music, SXSWedu and SXSW Eco. The following recipients were chosen by an outside selection committee working in con- junction with SXSW: Swan Songs, Skillpoint Alliance's POWERUp Velocity Prep, Reel Grrls, The Greater Edwards Aquifer Alliance, The Miracle Foundation. Grants are provided by the SXSW Community Fund administered by the Communities Foundation of Texas. Trans-Pecos Festival of Music + Love Celebrating its 10th year, the Trans-Pecos Festival of Music + Love was held on September 24-27 at the El Cosmico hotel and campground in scenic Marfa, Texas. The music lineup featured 18 performers spread across three nights. In addition to music, the festival also included popular art, craft and cooking workshops along with a pig roast, sandlot baseball game, and wood-fired hot tubs. Music highlights included Phosphorescent's set under a full moon, a pulsating dance party with the Mexican Institute of Sound, and a surprise appearance by St. Vincent during both David Garza's and Jenny Lewis' sets. The list of artists included a number of other SXSW alumni such as Portugal. The Man, Ben Kweller, Langhorne Slim, Tift Merritt and Jessie Baylin. SXSW Accelerator Returns in 2016 SXSW Accelerator is a live pitch event that showcases innovative startups from around the globe to a panel of industry experts, media and venture capitalists. Check out two days of innovative product and service pitches happening on Saturday, March 12, and Sunday, March 13, during SXSW Interactive at the Downtown Hilton Austin (4th Floor, 500 East 4th St.). Accelerator is open to all SXSW Interactive, Gold and Platinum badgeholders. Day two will feature emcees Leah Hunter (Fast Company writer) and co-Inventor of the Ethernet and founder of 3Com, Bob Metcalfe. Following the pitches, enjoy the SXSW Accelerator Awards Ceremony on Sunday evening, with our Master of Ceremonies, Startup Week Director at Techstars, Andrew Hyde. SXstyle Now in its second year, SXstyle will take place Friday, March 11 - Sunday, March 13 at downtown Austin's brand-new Westin Hotel. Exploring the ties between fashion, art, culture and technology, SXstyle will feature programming, networking events, evening gatherings and a platform for creatives to discover, create and learn.
