New SXsatellite Film Venue Added North Austin's 278-seat Marchesa Hall and Theatre has been added as a SXsatellite screen. Additionally, the Violet Crown Cinema will screen across its four theaters simultaneously, essentially turning it into a 183-seat venue. SXSWedu is Proud to Present the Education Expo Free and open to the public on Tuesday, March 4 from 2–8pm in the Austin Convention Center, this event will celebrate the Central Texas community's hunger and passion for lifelong learning. Music Hackathon The first annual SXSW Music Hackathon will be held March 12 and 13, and registration is open now. With some of the world's brightest digital creatives, programmers, industry minds and musicians coming together at SXSW, the potential for this event is enormous! BMI Turns 75 SXAméricas This year's edition of SXAméricas will offer a glimpse at the colorful landscape of music ranging from the purest Afro-Colombian styles, latin jazz, candombe, flamenco, cumbia, reggae, hip-hop, bosa nova and indie rock. Showcases will be presented by Sounds from Uruguay, Sounds from Spain, Sounds from Colombia, Sounds from Chile and Sounds from Argentina, and artists from Mexico, Venezuela, Costa Rica, Peru, U.S. and Brazil will also be represented. Scheduled performing artists include Porter, Juann Perro, Troker, Andrea Echeverri, Ana Tijoux, La Vida Boheme, Federico Aubele and Ana Prada. Film Introduces TV Titles Screening Section Episodic, a new screening category inspired by previous SXSW world premieres like HBO's Girls and A&E's Bates Motel, will feature innovative small screen work, including COSMOS: A SpaceTime Odyssey, hosted by Dr. Neil deGrasse Tyson. Stay tuned to sxsw.com/film for more titles! Shark Tank Casting Call SXSW is excited to announce that ABC's Shark Tank, will be at the Digital Creative Job Market. All entrepreneurs, inventors, creators and innovators are welcome to pitch their ideas for a chance at a spot on the show. Casting directors will have a booth set up on Thursday, March 6, followed by an open casting call for the general public on Friday, March 7. Visit ABC.com for more details. New Location for SXSW Create A celebration of makers, hackers and DIY-ers, SXSW Create will now take place March 7-9 at the Long Center's City Terrace. Look for free shuttles from the Austin Convention Center. 12 Broadcast Music, Inc. will begin to celebrate its 75th year in 2014. To mark this milestone, BMI will carry out a yearlong campaign of commemorative projects and events celebrating its history and contributions to the growth of American music. The 75th anniversary campaign will kick off with the introduction of 75 Years of American Music, a coffee table book written and art directed by Bob Guccione, Jr., the founder of SPIN magazine. Additional audio, audiovisual and printed material and programming will be produced throughout the year, including archival and current video footage on BMI TV to be distributed through social media channels and via bmi.com. SXSW Accelerator Moving to the Weekend Saturday Gaming Awards The popularity of SXSW Gaming has grown immensely over the last few years. For 2014, we celebrate this growth with the addition of the SXSW Gaming Awards on Saturday evening, March 8. sxsw.com/interactive/awards/gaming Cult Legend Alejandro Jodorowsky at SXSW Film The psychedelic stylings of Chilean film visionary Alejandro Jodorowsky have inspired a rabid cult following over the last 50 years, with such influential titles as El Topo, The Holy Mountain, and upcoming The Dance of Reality, his first film in nearly 25 years. We're thrilled to present Jodorowsky at SXSW 2014, in conversation with HitFix's Drew McWeeny. SXSW Accelerator, the centerpiece of programming at Startup Village, moves to Saturday and Sunday, March 8–9. Check out the latest and greatest in the startup world at this two-day competition. ImageThink to Create Visual Notes We're excited to partner with the artists of ImageThink to graphically record selected keynote and featured sessions. SXsports Overtime Party Celebrate the last night of SXsports at the inaugural Overtime Party presented by Fox Sports, on Sunday, March 9, from 8–11pm at Buffalo Billiards (201 E. 6th St.). Music Panel News Streaming music is at the front and center of the music industry's future, and SXSW Music 2014 will feature top execs from nearly every key company that is changing how we listen to music and how artists make money. Spotify, Pandora, Rdio, Soundcloud, YouTube and the soon-to-bereleased-in-the-U.S. Beats Music and Deezer, all will have voices at this year's conference. Late Night Saloon Now Open to Comedy! This year, Comedy attendees are invited to join the Film crowd nightly from 12–2am at the Stephen F. Austin Bar: Friday, March 7–Tuesday, March 11. SXSWORLD / FEBRUARY 2014 Joi Ito is 2014's SXSW Interactive Hall of Fame Inductee The SXSW Interactive Festival Hall of Fame honors trend-setters who have pushed the industry forward through innovative thinking. In 2012, the first inductee was web design legend Jeffrey Zeldman. In 2013, the award went to danah boyd, an expert on social media and the user habits of young adults. For 2014, the SXSW Interactive Festival Hall of Fame inductee will be Joi Ito, who currently holds the position of Director of the MIT Media Lab. Over the years, Ito has participated in the SXSW Interactive Festival on many levels. His involvement in the March 2013 event demonstrates the scope and depth of his fascinating career, where he spoke at a session titled "The New Serendipity" (with Kevin Rose, John Perry Barlow and Colin Raney), manned the MIT booth at SXSW Create and served as DJ at an after-hours get-together. The SXSW Interactive Hall of Fame induction ceremony occurs on Tuesday evening, March 11 at the Downtown Austin Hilton as part of the gala SXSW Interactive Awards. sxsw. com/interactive/awards/hall-of-fame
