TYE TRUITT
Career Act Prize Winner, The Flaming Lips at Auditorium Shores
California quartet Haim, featuring sisters Este, Danielle and Alana,
took the prize for Developing U.S. Act. With its fresh, boisterous
approach to contemporary pop, with elements of folk, R&B and hiphop, Haim quickly became one of SXSW 2013's most talked about
groups: "We are so honored to have won this award," said the band in
a group statement. "We've played some of our best shows at SXSW.
We have gained so much from our experiences at the festival and are
so happy to be in such great company. We can't wait for next year."
For Developing Non-U.S. Act, SXSW tapped young Glaswegian
electro-pop trio Chvrches, featuring singer Lauren Mayberry. "We
were humbled and honoured to receive this prize," she enthuses. "Not
only on account of its nature, but also in light of all the sensational
talent that was in attendance that week in Austin. SXSW 2013 was a
fantastic experience for us, playing alongside incredible musicians and
forging new friendships. You can't ask for much more than that!" ■
