SXSW 2013 was a great platform for my art. The festival gave me a wonderful space at Auditorium Shores to install a mural. The process was incredibly fulfi lling; developing an idea that propagated a good message, drawing it, printing a large scale version, and finally installing it with the help of my good friends. Lots of Mexicans were in town performing, so we had a big fiesta for days! - Diana Garcia (Los Angeles, California) MICHAEL BUCKNER / GETTY IMAGES -- Dave Grohl's Music Keynote speech entertained the standing-room-only crowd. BRADLEY DUGDALE III It was a great moment for us as a French band, and a great experience to discover this unique festival. It was so intense, so many bands and so many people in the street. It doesn't exist anywhere else at this point, and there's still a really cool atmosphere. We also met a lot of friendly people and bands, especially during our showcase. Moreover, we had a lot of great feedback about our gig. We met Arte Tracks - a great TV show in Europe! Finally, we were even a bit surprised that French people are really well appreciated more than anywhere else and to be honest, we didn't expect that... We really hope to come back and do another SXSW. Maybe next year! - LYS (Showcasing Artist: Rennes, France) MINDY BEST / GETTY IMAGES M U S I C A N D F I L M T H U R S D AY, M A R C H 1 4 T H -- -- "50 Years of the Beatles" panelists: Robyn Hitchcock, Bill Flanagan, Bob Santelli, Rodney Crowell 28 S X S W O R L D / M AY 2 0 1 3 Jake Bugg at Hype Hotel ROBERT TOBIANSKY MINDY BEST / GETTY IMAGES Five words - I saw Billy Joe Shaver. And when I asked for a photo together he whispered "better be quick." Oh, and I saw Dawes and Jon Dee Graham and Richard Thompson and Alejandro Escovedo and American Aquarium, and talked to Dave Marsh about Bruce Springsteen covering a Saints song in Australia. Then my plane home was turned back which I took as a sign to return in 2014. - Stuart Coupe (Laughing Outlaw Records: Sydney, Australia) Eurythmics mastermind Dave Stewart (L) and Stevie Nicks arrive at the screening of In Your Dreams: Stevie Nicks. I saw positive proof of this at SXSW, and I fear not that the music business is in dire straits. I did catch a comment that Dave Grohl made at his Stubbs show about making records without the use of big machine record labels. People cheered at that. There is a general sentiment that the music business is alive and well and existed way before any kind of economic infrastructure. As the experts decide where the tollbooth should sit as the music industry gets re-tooled, the bands will play on, as they always have. - Gavin Lurssen (Lurssen Mastering) Indians at Central Presbyterian Church Pharrell at the BET & ASCAP: Music Matters powered by Yahoo! show at Brazos Hall
