News & Notes Gear Expo Signings, Product Launches and the Gear Expo Store The 2013 Music Gear Expo will have a bevy of artist signings happening today (Thursday) through Saturday, including Crystal Method, DJ Inferno and many more. Also today, design-led music technology startup ROLI will be introducing the Seaboard GRAND, the fi rs application of its breakthrough SEA t Interface sensor technology. To launch the Seaboard GRAND, ROLI will host a press conference at the SXSW Gear Expo today at 1pm, featuring Jordan Rudess of Dream Theater. They will also be offering onsite as guitar repairs, too. 24 The Zombies PA M E L A L I T T K Y Bridging the creative audiences of Flatstock 38 and the Music Gear Expo, the new Flatstock Stage will feature performances curated by record labels, booking agencies and gear exhibitors. Hear sets from SXSW artists hand picked by Arts & Crafts, Panache Booking, Nettwerk Music Group, Santa Cruz Guitars and others for this Flatstock first. Friday brings a slew of amazing sessions featuring songwriter Richard Thompson, Amanda Palmer, Corey Taylor of Slipknot, The Zombies, Bootsy Collins, Omar Souleyman, and Mike Mills of REM, just to name a few. Saturday closes out the SXSW Music Conference with a bang. Michael Petricone will moderate the "So We Won SOPA: Turning a Moment into a Movement" panel. Chuck Ragan and friends will share touring lessons in "The Road Most Traveled." Andrew WK will take part in "Money Matters: Preparing for Life Beyond Music." Later in the afternoon, artists including Richard Thompson Robyn Hitchcock will examine the legacy of Nick Drake along with Drake's producer, the legendary Joe Boyd. Producer Shel Talmy sits down with Dave Marsh to discuss his work with the Who and the Kinks during the mid-'60s heyday of the British Invasion. Music industry legend Clive Davis (founder of both Arista and J Records) will share stories from his 50-plus-year career as a producer and label executive. LEE CINCOLO Music Conference Highlights Brendan Benson Check out the SXSW debut showcase by Brendan Benson's Readymade Records at The Stage on Sixth Patio (508 E. 6th St.) on Friday night (March 15). This amazing lineup includes Benson himself as well as the legendary ABKCO recording artist Eric Burdon of The Animals, Cory Chisel and The Wondering Suns, The Howlin' Brothers, Young Hines and The Lost Brothers. Austin Psych Fest and Yahoo! host an awesomely fun show complete with custom projection art from the gang at APF, featuring The Zombies and A Place To Bury Strangers, along with Elephant Stone, The UFO Club, Night Beats and Et Tu Bruce: Saturday at Brazos Hall (corner of E. 4th St. and Brazos St.). Friday and Saturday nights at one of Austin's most popular new clubs, the dive bar/honky tonk The White Horse (500 Comal St.), are co-curated by the bar's bookers and features local favorites, including Mike and The Moonpies and Urban Achievers Brass Band.
