SXSW Music Conference Highlights The SXSW Music Conference kicks off on Tuesday, March 12 with a track of crossover programming that includes "Activists, Rockstars & Startups - Building a Movement," "Constructive Disruption for the Music Biz," "The Buyer and the Beats: The Music Fan and How to Reach Them" and "Deadmau5 & Richie Hawtin: In Conversation - Talk. Techno. Technology." VERONICA ALBA On Wednesday, March 13, programming highlights include "Indie at Any Age" featuring Kenny Loggins, "Girls In Tech: Why Young Women Rule in Music" and an interview with My Morning Jacket's Jim James. Rounding out the day, hear from hip hop producer/DJ/engineer Young Guru on the panel "Era of the Engineer," and a special interview with the legendary Depeche Mode. Tuesday opens SXSW Music, and showcase highlights include the return of the Nerdcore showcase at Flamingo Cantina (515 E. 6th St.); K-Pop Night Out at Elysium (705 Red River St.); Sounds from Chile at Friends (208 E. 6th St.); Women of Letters literary salon at 18th Floor at Hilton Garden Inn (500 N. IH-35) with Amanda Palmer, John Sayles and Neil Gaiman; the City of Austin presenting local favorites at The Parish (214-B E. 6th St.); the Nature Conservancy presenting Ryan Bingham and others at Central Presbyterian Church (200 E. 8th St.); BBC Radio 1 presenter Huw Stephens curating the night's lineup at Latitude 30 (512 San Jacinto St.); the Antenna Farm Records showcase at Valhalla (710 Red River St.), and a lineup presented by Campfire Trails at Red 7 (611 E. 7th St.). SXSW is ready with another stacked roster for Next Stage inside the SXSW Trade Show (Austin Convention Center, Exhibit Halls 3 and 4). On Tuesday, check out "Virtual 2Pac: Setting the Stage for a New Form of Entertainment" to find out the secret behind the 2Pac hologram (12pm), or sit in for a discussion on tech entrepreneurs and musicians: "Fair Play: Music Tech Startups & Artists" at 5pm. On Wednesday, you might consider coming early to find a seat for "Drunk History at SXSW Presented by Comedy Central" (3pm). The party will be on Wednesday night at Cedar Street Courtyard (208 W. 4th St.) and features a great mix of talent: Murfreesboro, Tennessee's soulful rock outfit Glossary, Maximum Hedrum (the new project from N.A.S.A.'s Sam Spiegel and Sepultura's Derrick Green), garage rock heavyweight Curtis James (of Harlem) and his new group Grape St., Jonathan Bates with his buzzing solo project Big Black Delta, Oakland's political-funk-hip-hop force The Coup and one of rap's newest leading ladies, Angel Haze. Warner Bros Records kicks off three nights of showcases on Tuesday. Head to The Belmont (305 W. 6th St.) for Icona Pop, Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, Paramore and Atlas Genius to name just a few. Wednesday's Welcome to the South show at The Main (603 Red River St.) will feature the illest hip hop acts from across Texas. Hosted by Big Sid, the lineup includes Snow Tha Product, DeLorean, Slim Thug, Mookie Jones and others. The Austin Chronicle celebrates the Live Music Capital of the World with the 31st annual Austin Music Awards on Wednesday at the Austin Music Hall (208 Nueces St.). Confirmed acts include indie rocker Ben Kweller, cowboy sweethearts The Trishas, powerhouse composer and blues rocker Bill Carter, and an all-star tribute to SXSW's beloved Creative Director, Brent Grulke.
