Photo credit The King of Staten Island To Open SXSW Film 2020 The SXSW Film Festival is proud to present The King of Staten Island as the Opening Night Film for SXSW 2020. Featuring an ensemble cast and starring Pete Davidson, the movie is Judd Apatow's first directorial effort in five years. "Judd Apatow has consistently provided transcendent, exhilarating experiences at SXSW, starting with Knocked Up, then Bridesmaids, Trainwreck, Girls, The Big Sick, and his documentary May It Last: A Portrait of The Avett Brothers," said Janet Pierson, Director of SXSW Film. "This March, it's our particular privilege to present his funny and deeply moving new feature." The SXSW Film Festival will present more than 250 fea- tures, episodics, short films and videos across nine days of SXSW. Other highlights from the 2020 program will include such feature films as Bad Trip directed by Kitao Sakurai; The Lovebirds directed by Michael Showalter; In & Of Itself directed by Frank Oz; The 24th directed by Kevin Willmott; She Dies Tomorrow directed by Amy Seimetz; Zappa directed by Alex Winter; and Critical Thinking directed by John Leguizamo. Episodic highlights include: Central Park (showrunner: Loren Bouchard); Chad (showrunner: Nasim Pedrad); Outcry (showrunner: Pat Kondelis); Snowpiercer (showrunner: Graeme Manson); and Upload (showrunner: Greg Daniels). Music Festival News In January, 2020 SXSW Music Festival announced over 350 new Showcasing Artists to add to the growing performer list. Additional showcasing artists include: the SXSW return of Soccer Mommy, New York no-wave legend Lydia Lunch, Philadelphia's Beach Slang, Montreal-based Fools Gold R&B producer HERO, and Latin GRAMMY nominees Making Movies. International artists will represent some 42 countries and include: Aussie singer-songwriter Didirri, Colombian reggae dancehall singer Dragón Rojo, Ukrainian rapper alyona alyona, UK grime artist Knucks, Scottish sing- er-songwriter Aaron Smith, Danish experimental electronic composer Astrid Sonne, jangly Japanese indie-pop group Hazy Sour Cherry, and Chinese post-punk act The Hormones. Music Festival showcases will be presented by returning presenters: The BBC, We Found New Music, The Onion AV Club, Bella Union, Gorilla vs. Bear, Cascine, Damnably, Bloodshot Records, Levitation, Single Lock Records, Jazz Re:Freshed, Music From Ireland, Sounds From Spain, Focus Wales, Part Time Punks, Felte Records, Laneway Festival, Traffic Music, Desert Daze, Burger Records, and more. We'll also welcome first-time presenters including Italians Do It Better, Mercury Kx, Decca Publishing, Falls Festival, 6131 Records, Music Finland, Space Agency, Audiofemme, Artoffact Records, and Roskilde Festival.
