1 4 SXS W O R L D | M A R C H 8 , 2 0 1 8 | SXSW.COM IN BRIEF Jim Gaffigan to host SXSW Film Awards We're thrilled to announce the brilliant comic and actor Jim Gaffigan as the host of the SXSW 2018 Film Awards. Gaffigan is best known for his hilarious stand up routines, but more recently, he stars in You Can Choose Your Family, which will receive its World Premiere at SXSW 2018 on Sunday, March 11. The Awards Ceremony takes place Tuesday, March 13, at the Paramount Theatre (713 Congress Ave). Music Opening Party To kick off another great year of the SXSW Music Festival, head to the annual Music Opening Party, sponsored by Greater Fort Lauderdale's Underground, at The Main (610 E 6th St) on Tuesday. This event is open to Music and Platinum badge holders as well as Showcasing Artist Wristband holders. Starting at 6pm, see performances from Bad Gyal, Pussy Riot, Superchunk, Boy Harsher, Lali Puna, and Starcrawler. SXSWfm® Discover the sounds of SXSW through our official radio station, SXSWfm. Tune into SXSWfm's online player for music, featuring selections from artists you can expect to hear at SXSW, as well as tracks from artists who played SXSW in past years. SXSW Venue Changes Due to a delay in completion of one of the SXSW programming venues, a handful of SXSW components will change venues. The SXSW Job Market, Saturday and Sunday (March 10–11), will share venues with the SXSW Wellness Expo at the Palmer Events Center (900 Barton Springs Rd). The Vimeo Theater, which runs Friday, March 9–Tuesday, March 13, will be in Exhibit Hall 1 at the Austin Convention Center. For Thursday, March 15–Saturday, March 17, Exhibit Hall 1 will host SXSW Gaming's Tournament Stage and PC Arena. Music Films in 24 Beats Per Second The SXSW Film Festival's 24 Beats Per Second category explores the stories of music and the artists behind them. 2018 highlights include: Rapture, showcasing the impact of hip hop on global culture and starring Nas, T.I., G-Eazy, 2 Chainz, and more; A Tuba to Cuba, the story of a son seeking to fulfill his late father's dream, who takes his band from New Orleans to Cuba; and Blaze, the story of a singer-songwriter who gave up paradise for the sake of a song, directed by Ethan Hawke. Superchunk New Music Fest Venues for 2018 Starting Monday, March 12, the 2018 SXSW Music Festival will transform nearly 100 bars, clubs, parks, churches, hotels, and more into performance venues for the nearly 2,000 Showcasing Artists from all over the world. This year, new official Music Festival venues include: Bass Concert Hall (2350 Robert Dedman Dr), hosting Max Richter's performance of SLEEP; Sheraton backYARD Bar (701 E 11th St), home to the new Artist Village; Ironwood Hall (505 E 7th St), Seven Grand (405 E 7th St), Waller Ballroom (700 E 6th St), Native Hostel (807 E 4th St), Parlor Room (88 Rainey St); Trinity Warehouse (401 E Cesar Chavez St), next to the convention center; and Highland Lounge (404 Colorado St) in Austin's Warehouse District. Rapture Keynote Speakers at SXSW Film Always popular, this year's Film Conference Keynote sessions will feature presentations from visionary filmmakers Darren Aronofsky (Mother!) and Barry Jenkins (Moonlight), and VR pioneer Nonny de la Peña. All film key- notes will take place in Room 18ABCD of the Austin Convention Center.
