The record turnout of U.K. entities at SXSW this year includes another incredible lineup of musicians. Starting on Monday, the British Music Embassy will again take over Latitude 30 (512 San Jacinto Blvd) for six nights of shows, as well as daytime parties and showcases, supported by the Association of Independent Music, the Department for International Trade, the PPL, PRS for Music and the PRS Foundation. Highlights will include five shows presented by BBC Music. The lineup includes BBC Sound of 2018 nominees Pale Waves, Not3s and Jade Bird, as well as Gaz Coombes, Frank Turner, Bugzy Malone, Superorganism, and Nina Nesbitt. SXSW also welcomes its largest ever number of U.K. grime acts, with performances by AJ Tracey, Not3s, Yungen, Yxng Bane, Hardy Caprio, and many more. In addition, head over to the Main II (603 Red River St.) to check out the return of Jazz Re:freshed, showcasing U.K. jazz talent on Wednesday, March 14, and the stellar list of U.K. urban artists at the Musicalize showcase on Thursday, March 15. It's time to find out as teams will vie for top honors at the Washington State Wine presents Quesoff, a Hot Luck pop-up, on Tuesday, at 2pm. Head over to the SouthBites® Trailer Park (604 Driskill St) to sample the magical variations of Austin's beloved melted cheese appe- tizer. Plus, there will be a special appearance by Aaron Franklin of Franklin Barbecue. The Return of the Hackathon On Tuesday and Wednesday, the 5th annual SXSW Hackathon will bring together designers and coders to create new tools and push the boundaries of existing tech. Hackers compete in four categories: Music, Film, VR/AR and Blockchain. SXSW registrants are invited to the final presentations and awards on March 14. Winning teams will be awarded cash prizes, plus access to the SXSW Hackathon Incubator, March 15-17. Sponsors include Consensys, Capitol Innovation Labs, and Cloudinary. Mercedes-Benz Presents me Convention at SXSW 2018 In September 2017, Mercedes-Benz organized the first ever me Convention in cooperation with SXSW during the Frankfurt Motor Show (IAA) in Germany. Following the success of the event, Mercedes-Benz, together with smart, is bringing the me Convention experience to SXSW 2018. From Friday, March 9 – Thursday, March 15, the me Convention will co-host the SXSW- programmed Intelligent Future track at the Fairmont Hotel. In addition, catch me Convention-presented festival events in neighboring Palm Park, including Mystery Talks on the Pool Stage, as well as food, drinks, music, yoga and the "tiny house of smart." Max Richter's SLEEP Performance Emmy-nominated com- poser Max Richter is among the more influential figures on the contempo- rary classical music scene. At SXSW, he will present the North American premiere of SLEEP, an 8 hour "personal lullaby for a frenetic world," as the opening concert of the 2018 SXSW Music Festival, on Monday, March 12.
